My Journey
I trained as a classical musician at the Royal College of Music before beginning my career as a music teacher. Music has always been central to my life, but over time I became increasingly interested in the ways it could be used to connect with and support people beyond teaching and performance.
I went on to complete a two-year full-time Master's degree in Music Therapy with Nordoff and Robbins and subsequently worked as a music therapist across a wide range of settings.
My experience includes working with children and young people with autism, learning disabilities, profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex needs, as well as adults and older adults in hospitals, neurological rehabilitation, care homes and community settings.
I'm also a Neurologic Music Therapist® (NMT®), with specialist training that enables me to draw on evidence-based techniques when working towards specific goals in areas such as movement, communication and cognition.
My Approach
At the heart of my work is the belief that everyone deserves to be heard, understood and actively involved in their own music therapy, whatever their age, abilities or circumstances.
I aim to create meaningful musical experiences that foster connection, communication, self-expression and a genuine sense of agency and empowerment.
I also recognise the importance of offering empathy, understanding and support to family members and carers.
Working Together
Music therapy can form part of a wider multidisciplinary approach. I value working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals, sharing observations and working towards agreed goals where appropriate.
This collaborative approach can help ensure that music therapy complements and contributes to the wider support already in place.
Continuing to Learn
I'm committed to continuing professional development and keeping my practice informed by current evidence and best practice. I regularly undertake additional training to ensure my knowledge and skills continue to develop.

Hello, I'm Debbie
I'm an HCPC-registered music therapist, Neurologic Music Therapist® (NMT®), and the founder of Debbie Dyer Music Therapy.
For me, music therapy is about using the power of music to build meaningful relationships and support connection, communication, self-expression and a genuine sense of agency and empowerment.
I feel privileged to work alongside people as they discover new ways to connect with themselves and those around them.
